The desulfurization booster fan is a key device to ensure the stable operation of the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process. Its core functions are as follows:

1. Overcoming system resistance
The booster fan offsets the friction resistance (total resistance of approximately 1.5~3.0 kPa) generated by the flue gas flowing through the original flue, GGH (flue gas heat exchanger), absorption tower, clean flue, and other equipment through secondary pressure boosting.

In a wet desulfurization system, the booster fan needs to provide a full pressure of 2000~5000 Pa to ensure that the flue gas passes through the desulfurization device smoothly.

2. Stabilize the boiler's negative pressure
Coordinate the pressure balance between the desulfurization system and the boiler induced draft fan to avoid negative pressure fluctuations in the furnace due to changes in the resistance of the desulfurization device (the control range is usually -200±800 Pa).

3. Ensure desulfurization efficiency
Maintain the flue gas flow rate in the absorption tower (usually 3-4 m/s) to ensure sufficient contact and reaction between SO₂ and the slurry.

Operating characteristics

Low-pressure head, large flow: Typical air volume 200,000~500,000 m³/h (600MW unit), speed 960~3000 r/min.

Corrosion-resistant design: The impeller and casing are made of stainless steel or rubber-lined to resist corrosion from wet flue gas (containing SO₂, Cl⁻, etc.).

Energy-saving regulation: Modern systems often use frequency conversion technology (such as high-voltage inverters), which can save up to 20% of electricity.

Typical layout

Arrangement after the induced draft fan: The booster fan is located between the boiler induced draft fan and the absorption tower, and needs to overcome the additional resistance of desulfurization.

Bypass damper control: Quickly open the bypass when the inlet pressure is abnormal to protect the host furnace from negative pressure.

Differences from other devices

Compared with the oxidation fan, the booster fan transports the original flue gas, while the oxidation fan provides oxidation air (air pressure 50~100 kPa) for the absorption tower slurry.

Compared with the induced draft fan, the induced draft fan only overcomes the resistance of the boiler flue, and the booster fan needs to additionally compensate for the pressure drop of the desulfurization system.

Note: The selection of booster fans must be considered in combination with flue gas volume, system resistance, and anti-corrosion requirements. Their performance directly affects the reliability and economy of the desulfurization system.
